Camp Okoboji Adopt-A-Cabin

Okoboji Wants and Needs List

Vision:  "Jesus at the Lake"
The funding necessary to carry out Camp Okoboji's mission of "SERVING CHRIST IN OUTDOOR MINISTRY" comes from a combination of sources including income from Camp Services, Program fees, Lodging Fees, and through your gifts. Donations make up approximately 40% of the total operating revenue. Since program and other fees do not cover all the costs, your gifts are needed in order to maintain affordability. As with other ministries, financial support is needed throughout the year.

We are pleased to offer you opportunities to join us in Outdoor Ministry by including Camp Okoboji in your personal stewardship program. Most "general use" gifts go to the Annual Fund and are used to pay the day to day operating expenses or to prepare for the future. Donations may also be directed to Designated Gifts or Special Projects and will be restricted for this purpose according to guidelines set by the Camp Board of Directors. Want a more "Hands On" role? The Camp Okoboji Adopt-A-Cabin program continues to be popular with families, groups, and congregations. Donors may also choose to participate through Planned and Deferred Gifts in the form of bequests, cash, securities, or property. To facilitate these latter gifts, Camp Okoboji works closely with Mr. Jim Schroeder, Gift Planning Counselor with the LCMS Foundation.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has established the Thrivent ChoiceSM Program. This program will allow eligible members to direct Thrivent funds to organizations as listed in a "catalog" of enrolled recipients. This can be your opportunity to benefit your own congregation as well as the Lutheran non-profit organizations such as Camp Okoboji that may have previously been recipients of your GivingPlus supplemental funds. No personal donation is required to direct Thrivent funds reserved in your name. Which ever opportunity you choose Camp Okoboji is ready to help you develop personal or family gift plan for a "Lifetime of Giving" so that you may be assured that your Christian Stewardship is making a difference in "SERVING CHRIST IN OUTDOOR MINISTRY".

Gifts made to Camp Okoboji, a 501 (c) (3) organization, are tax deductible in the manner and to the extent provided by Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. For more information about your opportunities to support the Ministry at Camp Okoboji contact Larry Stille, Development Director at the Camp or

Builders Club
Camp Okoboji has a distinguished historical commitment to building Christ-centered relationships. Our service is in helping people build their faith life and in helping congregations to build their ministries. It is fitting that the group providing leadership support of this mission and ministry is named "Builders Club."

The Builders Club is made up of caring people who are concerned that God's children of all ages will continue to have opportunities and facilities to worship their Creator in an outdoor ministry setting. Members may include individuals, families, auxiliaries, and congregations. Membership in this vital giving organization continues to be an important witness and symbol of personal involvement.

Will you be a builder? For more information about the Builders Club, please contact  Larry Stille, Development Director at larry.camp@1idwlcms.org Or 712-337-3325 at the Camp Okoboji office.

Camp Okoboji - Adopt-A-Cabin Program

General Information

Adopt- A- Cabin Manuals may be requested from the Camp office.
Cabins or other structures on the property of Camp Okoboji may be adopted by individual members of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, or auxiliaries, congregations, or circuits which are members of the LC-MS.
All adoptions by these sponsoring agencies or individuals are to be financed by them with the labor provided, if available.  Hired labor is optional as agreed to by the sponsors and Camp Okoboji.
All work must be scheduled in advance so as not to interfere with use of the facilities by guests.
Projects may range from simple maintenance and a variety of repair and home improvement tasks to remodeling and major renovation.
To ensure standardization and to facilitate smaller parts inventory, all materials will be purchased or supplied by Camp Okoboji at sponsors' expense.

Recognition

A plaque located in the Christian Life Center will recognize the sponsor of each cabin. (Individual plaques may not be placed in or on the cabins themselves.)
All sponsors and individual participants will be acknowledged in quarterly publications of the "Harvest" in the WAVES section and in the "Camp Okoboji Annual Report" distributed at the Camps' Annual Meeting.

Renewal

Letters to sponsors will be mailed annually with an update on needs and an options to renew the sponsorship.
Adoption requires the expenditure for  some project to meet the identified needs of the structure or a nominal donation to offset routine maintenance costs for the facility.

Adopt-A-Cabin Recommendations

Determine necessity for leveling the cabin.
All signs on building are to be identical in size and design.
Exterior Painting:  Camp will purchase paint and pass the cost on to the adopting organization.
Interior Painting and/or refinishing of wall surfaces:  to be approved by maintenance.
Doors and Windows:  Emergency egress windows and 36" entry doors.
Siding:  Vinyl or steel siding with enclosed soffits.
Electrical:  Install 14 x 2 with ground Romex wiring and a minimum of an 8 circuit fuse box with circuit breakers.  GFI Circuit Breakers and grounded outlets included.
Lighting:  Install new fixtures; energy efficient fluorescent fixtures with lens cover to be installed in all face lights; new cabinet over toilet, with mirror and lights to be installed about lavatories in bathrooms.
Bathroom:  1)  Replacement of tongue and groove 4" flooring and cover interior wall with washable surface.  Lavatories and stools may need replacement.  Repair and/or replace plumbing as needed.  Plastic pipe will be used.  2)  We will secure lavatories and stools and flooring as well as parts at as low a cost to your as possible.  We will secure these items so that our parts inventory for repairs can be as limited as possible.  As lavatories are replaced, we suggest the installation of anti-scalding mixing faucets and a shut off on all water supply lines for maintenance purposes.  3)  As stools and floors are replaced, we also are installing a water supply shut off and a sewer clean out for easier service.
Uniform Smoke Alarms (To be hardwired on new construction):  Placed as recommended.
Fire Extinguishers:  1)  ABC Type Fire Extinguishers are required in Housekeeping and other buildings as necessary.  2)  Camp will provide the extinguishers and sponsors pay the cost.
